JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of secretarial, receptionist, and non-clinical nursing tasks under the direction of the professional staff; interacts with others in a respectful and courteous manner. Documents accurately and in a timely manner. Communicates and collaborates with other healthcare team members. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures; regulatory/accrediting body requirements; and professional practice standards. Care will be provided to patients of all ages from neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults to geriatrics.

  • Provides secretarial support to assist the unit and organization in its daily activities, i.e.:
  • transcribes accurately physician orders and entry to the system software
  • creates and maintains tasks related to patient chart order, chart accuracy, and chart current data
  • keeps all necessary lists and schedules
  • answers the phone in a professional manner and takes messages/directs calls as appropriate
  • utilizes fax and photocopier as needed
  • processes a variety of information for new admissions, re-admissions and transfers
  • removes documents from charts according to established format
  • Communicates effectively with team members, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Accepts delegated responsibilities on assigned shift.
  • Documents and maintains patient records in a timely manner as appropriate for unit.
  • Provides patients and family members with information as appropriate.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new and tenured unit secretary personnel and serves as a resource to other staff under the supervision of the RN.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of disaster/emergency procedures and responds appropriately.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual knowledge, skills, performance and behavior in accordance with hospital, division, and unit standards of care and policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes measures to promote and maintain patient, visitor and personnel safety.
  • Maintains patient, employee, physician, and organization confidentiality; respects the rights, privacy, and property of others.
  • Maintains self-control under stressful situations and workload pressures without exhibiting negative behaviors.

 

Requirements Include
  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • High School or Trade School students may be considered if their course of study could lead to full-time employment and they can legally work the hours necessary for the position.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • Previous secretarial experience preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLs) certification required
