JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting patients in retail optical purchases, adjustments and repairs.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Excellent organizational, communication and computer skills desired. 

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS/SOFTWARE

Computer, phone, copier, fax, scanner, Microsoft Office package, Excel, Practice management software.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists patients in a timely fashion with frame selection and lens choices.
  • Prepares orders, paperwork, etc in such a fashion that results in accurate orders, no remakes and satisfied patients.
  • Offers patients information on lenses, coatings, sunglasses, multiple pair discounts, etc.
  • Reviews warranties, return policies, etc with patients.
  • Adjusts frames and completes frame repairs to patient satisfaction.
  • Obtains prior authorization for hardware when they have not already been obtained.
  • Follows rules and regulations regarding dispensing laws and OnSight Optical’s Operating Manual.
  • Stays current of optical plans being offered in this area. Verifies patient eligibility for insurances and timely processing of insurance claims to the appropriate vendor(s).
  • Ensures optical department is opened on time and closed after all patients are seen.
  • Posts sales daily and in a complete manner – all monies to be balanced daily and given to accounts payable for deposit.
  • Participates in physical inventories.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with patients, visitors, physicians, staff and other persons contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to enter data into computer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Completes special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Promotes continuous quality improvement/customer service efforts.

Enhance the services provided to patients, their families, physician/practitioners and members of the staff by demonstrating positive attitudes and positive actions through a display of courtesy, congeniality, cooperation, sensitivity and professionalism

Requirements Include

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; three years apprenticeship on-the-job training or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • State Dispensing License, American Board of Opticianry and national Contact Lens Examiners (if required).
