JOB SUMMARY

Assess, evaluate, diagnose and initially treat patients of all ages, who present to the Urgent Care Center with any symptom, illness, injury or condition and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries’ stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and to assess all patients to determine if additional care is necessary within the privileges granted by the Board of Trustees and the written agreement with the supervising physician. Privileges do not include care of patients on an in patient basis. No privileges to admit or perform scheduled elective procedures with the exception of procedures performed during routine Urgent Care center follow up visits.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Understanding of medical coding and billing.
    • Knowledge of JCAHO accreditation requirements and state and federal regulations including OSHA, HIPAA, blood pathogens, and others.
    • Competent with common PC application including internet, email, and Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to supervise, train and evaluate new and current provider staff.
    • Knowledge of rules and regulations in urgent care.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Identify, evaluate, and address disease prevention and health promotion issues.
    • Obtain comprehensive patient histories including review of records.
    • Educate client and/or their family regarding preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments, medications, or therapeutic devices.
    • Perform physical examinations, including audiometry screenings, routine visual screening, and pelvic rectal and genital –urinary examinations.
    • Ordering, performing, or ordering and performing routine diagnostic procedures (includes cultures, EKG and “waived testing” in accordance with KnoxCommunityHospital policy and procedure, gastrocult/hemocult) as indicated.
    • Maintain legible, accurate, and confidential medical records.
    • Document all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with regulatory and accrediting bodies
    • Perform the monitoring of additional requested screenings (i.e. pulmonary function tests, urine drug screens and interpretation of results and appropriate follow-up of abnormal findings.).
    • Work in conjunction with the Infection Control Nurse regarding reporting, surveying, screening and, as appropriate, implementing programs pertaining to prevention or spread of infectious disease. 
    • Compile, prepare and present monthly statistics and reports as needed, within the areas of responsibilities to the Medical Director/Urgent Care. 
    • As necessary, assist in developing and revising policies related to urgent care.
    • Attend meetings, discussions, conferences, seminars and workshops, both within and outside of urgent care, as applicable to position responsibilities.
    • Protect the confidentiality of information within areas of position responsibilities by preventing unauthorized release, both verbally and/or in writing.
    • Observe all health and safety requirements.
    • Delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
    • Consult with/refer to other physicians and providers.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations.
    • Participate in staff meetings, educational programs, committee, QI activities, and mandatory in-services.
    • Maintain professional growth for self and incorporate evidence based knowledge into clinical practice through continuing education, conference, workshops, professional literature, and/or additional training.

    • Demonstrate appropriate use of infection control practices and personal protective equipment.

    • Perform other similar and related duties as requested by the Urgent Care Director.

    • Enhance the services provided to patients, their families, physician/practitioners and members of the staff by demonstrating positive attitudes and positive actions through a display of courtesy, congeniality, cooperation, sensitivity and professionalism.

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

    • Masters or higher degree licensed by the State Medical Board of Ohio.
    • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications required.
    • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification required
    • Must be privileged to practice by the KCH Board of Trustees.
