What can cause Vestibular disorders?

The most common cause of vestibular disorders is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), a sudden feeling of spinning or swaying. It happens when tiny calcium crystals in one part of your ear move into an area where they shouldn't be. These crystals cause your inner ear to tell your brain you're moving when you're not.

In 2023, our vestibular team performed 132 evaluations for vestibular and vertigo diagnosis. Based on FOTO (Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes), between September 2022 and September 2023, the Center for Rehabilitation and Wellness had patients with improved symptoms 59% quicker than the national average.

The Vestibular Team at the Center for Rehabilitation and Wellness comprises Emory Certified Physical Therapists with 15+ years of experience. In 2020/2021, our therapist ranked in the top 14% of the nation for vestibular care. Your physical therapist will tailor vestibular therapy to your specific needs. They'll show you how to do particular exercises so you can exercise at home to maximize therapy outcomes and quickly minimize symptoms.
